2000: Financial Collapse and Reinvention

In National Rugby League season 2000 the Warriors could only finish second last. This season included the Warriors' largest ever loss in their history to date, 54–0 to the Dragons in Wollongong. Alarmingly, the problems off-field overshadowed the on-field problems. The majority shareholders were under intense financial pressure, and the club's future was looking bleak at best. The key assets of the club were purchased by business tycoon Eric Watson. This did not include player contracts, and many players were released and had to fight to get the money they had been promised. Ultimately only 10 players from the 2000 season were retained.

Iro Explains Warriors Recruitment Process

One could be forgiven for thinking that the powers that be within the Warriors establishment haven't quite mastered the important and on-going task that is player recruitment and retention. As the 2017 campaign enters the final stages of the season, it's not only hard to stay focused on the number of players leaving at seasons end but the quality of player whom won't be returning in 2018.

Warriors Get The Job Done

After a couple of back to back performances that were nothing short of embarrassing from the Warriors, the NZ based outfit turned up and put on a show for the fans at Mt Smart, albeit to an under strength Broncos outfit. That being said, you can only play the team that's put in front of you and it was crucial that they got the job done. Anything short of a victory would have put serious pressure on the club and no doubt would have completely stripped away any confidence the players may have still had left within them. As the Origin period roles around for another year, the Warriors find themselves in an all too familiar position. Yet ANOTHER slow start to the season leaving them behind the pack and desperate to string some wins together.

Round 7 vs Raiders - #Faither 5: Pre Game

The Rd 7 match vs the Raiders in Canberra this weekend looms as what could potentially be a season defining game for the Warriors. Although the NZ based side has come away with 5 wins from their previous 10 clashes against the Green Machine, alarmingly their record in Australia's National Capital is less than to be desired, with only 2 victories from their previous 5. Looking back further, the Warriors have struggled to adapt to the conditions at the Raiders home stadium where they went 13 years without a victory, stretching from 2001-2014.
