Round 21 Faither of the Week

Round 21
Mt Smart Stadium
NZ Warriors 20 def Penrith Panthers 16
Faither of the Week: Shaun Johnson

In what was a must win game for the NZ Warriors that was played out in tricky conditions due to the weather, the Warriors once again found themselves giving fans heart issues with the game heading into yet another golden point period.

With both sides taking shots at field goal to break the dead lock it will be Shaun Johnsons who will go down in the record books as the man who won the game and although there is no denying the brilliance of his solo effort credit must also be passed on to Kata. The one on one strip he produced with Penrith in decent field position early in the tackle count turned the game on it's head and from there the magician in the #7 for the Warriors took care of the rest.

SJ has copped plenty of criticism over the course of the year and while some has been warranted i feel as though sometimes fans can be a little harsh on the bloke.

Shaun now joins an elite club with only 2 others players who are currently members as he takes out the Round 21 Faither of the Week award for the second time. Joining his halves partner, Tommy Leuluai as well as the young sensation David Fusitua.

Before we look into the stats it is important to remember that some things don't show up in that department and one of those is SJ's near perfect kicking game. His pin point accuracy from the boot allowed him to control the game and keep the Panthers tied down, deep in their own territory. The kicking game on display was an absolute master class.

The stats that are there for all to see show just how dominant he was in the game. SJ came away with a try that proved to be the match winner, 1 try assist, 1 line break, 2 line break assists, 12 tackles (including a big hit during GP which gave Warriors possession deep in Penrith territory), 5 tackle breaks, 81 running metres and 267 kicking metres.

Shaun Johnson thoroughly deserves his Faither of the Week award this week.
